How to Learn AI Without Math Fear
8 min · 1 min read · no scary math, promise
🤖
You’ve got this. Read a little, play a little — I’ll wait. No rush.
The system
- One concept at a time — e.g. tokens today, not transformers.
- Draw it — boxes and arrows beat paragraphs.
- Tiny code — under 30 lines, run it.
- Quiz yourself — close the tab, recall aloud.
- Spaced repeat — revisit after 1, 7, 30 days.
Math rule
You need: arithmetic, averages, a feel for probabilities. You do NOT need calculus to start building RAG apps.
When you hit “cosine similarity”, learn just that: angle between arrows. Done. Move on.
90-minute session template
- 20m read chapter
- 20m run snippet / play animation
- 20m quiz + notes in your words
- 20m build tiny variant
- 10m mark done, write what confused you
If you can explain it to a friend in 2 minutes, you got it.
